Controversial Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has asked Carlos Alcaraz to face him in an exhibition that would take place in the Spaniard's hometown of Murcia. While recovering from the injury that has sidelined him from the circuit for much of this year, Kyrgios has been very active on social media.
Last season's Wimbledon finalist has posted a story on Instagram in which, in addition to the invitation, he values Alcaraz's form.
"Alcaraz is a sure force. I would have liked to see how he would have fared last year when he was healthy and playing out of the spotlight. Carlos Alcaraz, what do you think about doing an exhibition in Murcia next year?" he wrote.
It would be a clash with an unknown date as the Australian's physical problems have not ceased: "Unfortunately my body is not ready to compete yet. My wrist is still not close to being pain free."
Kyrgios has also had words about the other Spaniard who will be fighting to add another Grand Slam to his personal tally. Like the Canberra native, Rafael Nadal is immersed in his recovery process.
"The circuit will be better when Nadal and I are back," he said of the Spaniard, whom he wishes to be back as soon as possible. The last time the draw brought them together to meet face to face, the Spaniard withdrew from the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2022 due to injury and the match was never played.
A couple of days ago Kyrgios confessed: "With all the drinking and partying I've done, it feels like I'm 57. I won't play until I'm 33."
Criticism from his haters has not stopped and his response has not been long in coming: "Let me remind you of this before you open your mouths." The Australian player has published through a tweet some ATP statistics in which he himself appears as the leader in serves and points under pressure, while Alcaraz tops the list of the best returners.
